We were asked to write a blog about how we felt before leaving on this mission trip. Here is what I’m expecting…

I just got back from a mission trip to South Padre, TX, over spring break.   This was my 4th year going and what we basically do is share the love of Jesus to all the spring breakers who have come to party.  Every year I am blown away.  I have stories after stories about what all God does there! Trust me, by the end of this Peru trip yall will all be sick and tired of hearing my voice because I could seriously talk for hours about the presence and the divinity of the Lord there!  Here’s the deal about this trip…every year I have an expectation and every year God does over and above what I was thinkin.

For this trip, yes, I expect uncomfortable sleep, sweaty clothes and dirty hair.  I actually have a friend that has gone on this exact same trip and he also gave me other expectations such as anacondas, river baths and such a large amount of mosquito bites that to put it quite simply, i will come back with what looks like the measles, chicken pox or just simply an allergic reaction to Peru.  Spiritual expectations?  I expect to see God.  Whether that be in healing the sick, saving the lost or simply waking up everyday in the midst of His creation.  I do hope to see miracles, but if all the Lord wants me to do is share the good news to unreceptive people, I expect a peace from that!

I wouldn’t say i expect this, but I hope to have a peace about my being called to other countries as a missionary. I pray that my experiences there will lead me to an answer, but like yall have mentioned before, I am not going to limit God to giving me a final answer then.  It would be cool, but all in His timing right?

I’ll end with this – I expect GREAT things!  I expect to learn and to teach, i expect adventure, chaos, order, growth in my walk with the Lord and growth in the kingdom of God.  Whether that be salvations, discipleship or whatever, I expect God to show up and I expect Him to blow me away!

  1. Amanda,

By the end of your trip, you are probably going to be sick of me writing on this thing. BUT, I am so excited to hear all about your trip. If everybody gets annoyed with you talking constantly about it, you can come talk to me about it. I understand. Can’t wait to see the way God will blow all your expectations out of the water… in GREAT ways!

    Love you!
