Expectations of my mission trip…
What do I expect from the Amazon Jungle in Peru? To be attacked by mosquitoes constantly, to wake up feeling sick every morning, running to the bathroom all day and night, and not having a cold drink for 62 days. However, I am also expecting to be blown away by what Jesus plans to do through us, becoming friends with some incredible people from all of over the US, fellowshipping and worshiping with them, sharing the gospel with the lost and growing in my relationship with Jesus throughout it all.
Like I’ve said, I went with AIM two summers ago to where we are going this summer. One of my biggest struggles initially when I am asked my expectations is that I was scared I set them too high. I had an incredible team, leaders and experience my first trip and I was scared that I would be comparing this trip to that one.
Over the past few days though, Jesus has been trying to teach me something. He’s been telling me not to put Him in a box. Don’t limit what He can do. He’s got this team picked out specifically and He knows exactly what people in Peru we’re going to come into contact with. He has every single last detail planned out and no matter my expectations, I’m not going to change what He has set to happen.
So, what are my expectations now? I’m doing my absolute best not to have any. Jesus has a plan and I just want to be apart of it.
ahem…incredible people from all over the US AND Canada… :)Nice to meet you!
Amen to this sister! God has been teaching me not to put Him in a box for a few years now and I seriously am in awe of Him and all He has done AND in the fact that He can and will do even more. i absolutely agree!
Something I learned, through my experience of multiple mission trips growing up in my church, is that when you compare two mission trips together, the latter is also viewed worse than the former. Not comparing trips is one of the hardest things we will need to do at times, but just rest in God, and in His providence for us.
