We were asked to write a blog about how we were called to this mission
trip. Here is my story. Since the fifth grade, when I had my first encounter
with learning Spanish, a love for Latin America and the people of that
region has been placed on my heart. God has put this passion inside me for a
reason. I am still trying to figure out
what He is going to do with this passion. I have been on missions trips during my summer vacations over the past few
years. In fact, I had made other plans to go somewhere else. Everything was
fine and dandy until a change in my previous summer plans came along with a
change in my life that I did not necessarily want to happen at the time.
I didn’t see it at
the time, but God was opening doors. This change, threw me into His arms. It
was like Deuteronomy 32:10
In a desert land He found her, in a barren
and howling waste. He shielded her and cared for her; He
guarded her as the apple of His eye. (change of pronouns him–>her)
I was slowly learning what relying on Him for
everything really meant. They say when
God closes a door He opens a window. For some reason, I couldn’t just accept
sitting at home for a summer when I could be doing something important for the
Lord. I was waiting on Him to see what He wanted me to do. So knowing that I
have a love for Latin America, and knowing that I just would not feel right
staying home, I began looking for other alternatives. I had previously checked
out World Race as something to do after I graduate, if that is where God wants
me to go. As I was perusing the website, I found a trip going to Peru. This was
interesting and looked like something I would be interested in doing. (I mean
hut to hut evangelism, count me in!) I found myself checking the website and
reading more about the trip at least three times a day. It stuck in my mind and
in my heart.
If you seek you
will find. Seeking implies action. In my experience with God, He doesn’t make
everything easy and there has to be some effort on my part so I decided to do
everything on my side that was possible and leave the rest to Him. I remember
saying, “Okay Lord, if it is your will, it will be and if it is not your will,
close the door.” I applied to the trip and was accepted. That was just one
step.
I think that this trip is the start of
something bigger. Not quite sure what it may lead to, but I am going to hold on
for the ride, the adventure of my life.

Girl I am so excited to spend this trip with you! It’s amazing how similar our stories are. God will show your His plan in His timing, just keep being faithful and praying.
